School’s Out! Getting Kids Involved In Sports Over The Summer

School’s Out! Getting Kids Involved In Sports Over The Summer July 26, 2019 – Posted in: General

If you’re a parent with your own kids, the chances are that when you grew up there were a lot fewer screens around than today! And that probably means you felt more encouraged to spend the bulk of your summer holiday outside in the sun. These days you can’t escape Fortnite, Youtube and all the entertainment your child might ever need right at their fingertips.

Here at Big 5 Cricket And Hockey we have a wide range of sports equipment available, but children need to be interested in sports if you want them to take part. So how do you encourage your kids to put down the screen and get involved in sport this summer?

Take Them To See Live Sport

Live sport can be a grand occasion. If you have a love of any sport in particular, you probably have a fond childhood memory of seeing that sport live. Whether it’s going to see a cup final with your parents, seeing England win by a particularly high score, or seeing a sporting idol in the flesh, sport has the power to leave a lasting impression on children. As a parent, you have the chance to share this wonderful experience with your children!

The Premier League season begins soon, and there are Cricket test matches going on throughout the summer. But even if you’re not in a position to take your kids to a big game, taking them to see their local clubs in action is a kick start to their love for a sport!

Taking kids to see live sport can instill a passion and love that lasts a lifetime. On the 27th of July we will be running a trip to Lord’s cricket ground to see England v Ireland. If you’re interested in your child taking part and seeing the England cricket team perform live, get in touch to find out how. We have plenty of events lined up to help get kids involved in sport!

Get Them Involved In A Summer Camp

There’s no denying that you’re fighting an uphill battle: staying at home playing video games or sitting at the computer is the easy way out. But something that all kids need is time with their friends spent socialising. Which just so happens to be something they can’t really do from behind a screen, but they can when out on the field trying a new sport.

We run a holiday camp from the start of the summer holidays right through till the end. We’re proud of our holiday camps because we’ve seen the number of children attending grow each holiday – this year we’re seeing our highest numbers ever! Our camps are designed to keep kids as active as possible during the summer, while giving them time with their friends and improving their skills.

We’re unique because we give the children a chance to decide for themselves what they would like to spend their time doing. Our coaches are experienced and knowledgeable in a number of sports, which is why we’re able to offer kids great quality coaching in a wide range of different sports.

We also offer specific coaching courses for kids who have a passion or talent for a particular sport. Our coaches offer specific courses in Hockey, Rugby, Cricket and Tennis. The cricket classes we run take part in exceptional, first class facilities. Our camps run from 8am – 6pm every single school holiday and we run them in a number of different areas. Prices can differ, so if you want to hear more about how we can get your child involved with sport this summer, please get in touch.
